Fuel filter replacement on diesel: loss of power and hard starting
“Diesel loss of power” after a questionable fill often points to a saturated fuel filter. Modern common-rail systems are sensitive to dirt and water.
When to change it
- Follow the service schedule (often 20,000–40,000 km)
- Sooner after contaminated fuel
- When a water-in-fuel warning appears
- Hard cold starts with a healthy battery
Related checks
Garages may bleed the system, inspect the tank strainer, and scan for rail-pressure codes. Do not keep clearing limp mode without replacing a packed filter.
Reserve a service bay on CarFix and note recent fuel stops or power loss under load.
